In het riviertje de Jeker vlakbij Maastricht wordt het levenloze lichaam van een jonge vrouw gevonden. De enige aanwijzingen zijn een klein doosje hars en een dure halsketting. Voor de jonge, temperamentvolle rechercheur Eva van Dongen is deze moord een nieuwe uitdaging in haar dynamische werk. Dan verschijnt Floris Wolfs op de plaats delict. Deze Amsterdammer is door hoofdinspecteur Flamand toegevoegd aan het rechercheteam van Limburg-Zuid. Tot groot ongenoegen van Eva blijkt Wolfs ook nog haar nieuwe partner.
